Giovani Lo Celso interested in last-minute Aston Villa transfer after Tottenham exit update
Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso will be interested in a move to Aston Villa ahead of the transfer deadline on 30 August, according to Alan Hutton.
The Argentina international was left out of Spurs’ side for their opening Premier League match of the season against Leicester City as speculation continues around his future in North London.
Lo Celso will reportedly be allowed to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the window closes, with Real Betis joining the Villans in holding an interest in his signature [Fabrizio Romano, 10 August].
Although Hutton believes the opportunity to play in the Champions League under Unai Emery will appeal to the midfielder, he thinks the 26-year-old would prefer to move to a club where he will be a regular starter.
“I think it could always sway his decision,” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.
“He knows what Aston Villa are like because he’s been in the league and he’s seen them make it into the Champions League.
“So it’s probably something that will interest him. But does it suit him better to go somewhere like LaLiga? Possibly with his attributes.
“I think the Premier League is very robust, it’s very difficult, quick paced all those sorts of things and maybe it doesn’t quite suit him?
“He’s had a difficult few seasons. I know he went on loan to Villarreal so he will know that league very well.
“But again, do I see him playing week in and week out at Villa? No, I don’t, so maybe that would sway him to look elsewhere.”
Giovani Lo Celso to exit Tottenham amid Aston Villa transfer rumours
While remaining in the Premier League and playing Champions League football will appeal to Lo Celso, he will not want to move to another club where he won’t necessarily play week in and week out.
The Villans have been incredibly active this summer, particularly when it comes to bolstering their options in the middle of the park where Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley and Enzo Barrenechea have all been signed.
Add to that the imminent return of Boubacar Kamara and it becomes incredibly difficult to see where Lo Celso would slot into Emery’s plans on a regular basis.
Maybe a deal could still be struck before the transfer window slams shut next week, but at this moment in time, a move back to Spain with Real Betis seems the much more likely option.
