Aston Villa backed to agree £25million-plus Joe Gomez transfer amid Liverpool exit update
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez would be an “excellent” addition for Aston Villa, according to Bryan King.
The ex-Villa scout believes the 27-year-old would cost Unai Emery’s side upward of £35million.
As reported via The Athletic (20 August), Aston Villa are one of the clubs interested in a deal for Gomez. However, nothing is imminent, with the player and both clubs all exploring their options.
And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – thinks Gomez’s experience could prove useful for Emery.
“Gomez would be an excellent addition for Villa,” King said.
“He is another player who could play anywhere across the backline. More importantly, he is a player who has experience at the highest level.
“He knows the Premier League, he knows the UEFA Champions League and he is a decent pedigree. That would be a great asset for Villa.
“In terms of a fee, you’ve got to be looking at somewhere between £25-35million, if not more.”
Aston Villa to sign Liverpool defender Joe Gomez?
This would be a statement signing for Villa.
Gomez has played some of the biggest games in club football during his time at Anfield. Therefore, he would arrive at Villa Park with plenty of experience, something which the squad arguably lacks.
Despite their impressive achievements last season, plenty of Villa’s players are yet to play in the Champions League. Therefore, having a player like Gomez around could be beneficial.

He is arguably in the prime of his career and now would be the perfect time for a move away from the Reds. As a result, Villa would be signing a player hungry to kick on over the next few years.
