Aston Villa offered Raheem Sterling transfer as Chelsea exit update emerges

Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling has been offered to Aston Villa ahead of the 30 August transfer deadline, according to Ben Jacobs.

The sports broadcaster reported via X on Wednesday (21 August) that the Villans have held internal talks over the possibility of signing the England international as he looks set to exit Chelsea in the coming days.

Sterling would be willing to take a wage cut if the right project was presented to him before the window slams shut, but Villa’s interest isn’t expected to develop past the initial talks because of the cost of the transfer.

Will Raheem Sterling exit Chelsea amid Aston Villa transfer rumours?

On paper, Sterling would be an excellent addition to Unai Emery’s side this summer given his wealth of experience at the highest level of English and European football.

The England international has played in the Champions League with both Manchester City and Liverpool and has competed for Premier League titles at both clubs as well over the course of his incredibly successful career.

However, with profit and sustainability rules causing so much concern throughout the Premier League, the Villans fund will be limited between now and the end of the transfer window and that was always going to be a problem with Sterling.

The Chelsea star is believed to be on a very big wage at Stamford Bridge and he is also under contract for the next two years.

Not only would the Blues be looking for a transfer fee, but the winger himself is unlikely to take a massive pay cut even if he is open to a small one.

If the terms of the transfer change in the final days of the transfer window, maybe then this could be a deal that Aston Villa revisit. Until then, however, it would be a surprise to see Emery’s side’s interest progress past the initial internal talks.
