Aston Villa finalise Emi Martinez agreement, Dan Bardell instantly reacts
Dan Bardell couldn’t be happier after Aston Villa confirmed that Emi Martinez has signed a new five-year contract.
The Villans announced via X on 21 August that the Argentina international had agreed to a new deal running until 2029 at Villa Park.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has been left ecstatic by the news that the World’s Number One is staying on at B6.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I couldn’t be happier to get Martinez tied to a deal until 2029.
“He is going to go down as Villa’s best goalkeeper at least in the Premier League era. He just continues to amaze me and it amazes me that Villa have got the best goalkeeper in the world.
“I don’t think in my life Villa have ever had the best player in a certain position on the books. I think it is brilliant the club have sorted that and it isn’t like it was pressing because he had a few years left on his deal but I like that they’ve rewarded him.
“They’ve realised that they’ve got this top goalkeeper and they are doing everything they can to keep him happy so that is absolutely fantastic.“

The Villans have shocked their supporters with the announcement to see the 31-year-old commit his long-term future to the club once again.
Martinez has been part of the furniture in the upward trajectory of the club ever since joining from Arsenal in 2020.
His form across his time as the Villa number one has been superb with his presence being a massive factor to drive the club forward.
This has seen him also play a huge role in Argentina’s rise to the top of the international stage in the Copa America and World Cup.
With all that being said, there is no doubt that it is amazing news to see him confirm a new deal at Villa Park and long may his form and impact continue.
