Lamare Bogarde signs contract after Aston Villa transfer developments

Aston Villa gem Lamare Bogarde has signed a new contract on Monday (19 August) as part of a long-term project, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer specialist reported via his personal X account [19 August] that the 20-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a new deal at Villa Park after interest from elsewhere.

It is understood that Villa rejected a bid from Nottingham Forest in June, snubbing the offer to extend his stay with the Villans after arriving from Feyenoord in 2020.

Unai Emery has proven his desire to bring young talents into the Villa squad, with a number of gems used throughout the Villans’ pre-season preparations.

Bogarde was one of those talents, having been given 28 minutes against Borussia Dortmund in the final game before the Premier League opener against West Ham United on Saturday 17 August.

With Villa now putting their trust in the 20-year-old, wanting him to remain at Villa Park as part of a long-term project, fans will be desperate to see him given more first-team opportunities.

After two six-month loans with Bristol Rovers in recent seasons, the midfielder could be ready for more minutes under Emery, especially with multiple competitions at Villa Park this season.

While he has made his first-team debut, this came in the FA Cup during the 2021/22 season, only making the first-team bench on a handful of occasions since then.

Fans are very aware of the talents currently in their academy, with Bogarde certainly being one of them expected to make a breakthrough soon, and this update can only be good news for the midfield gem.

At 20 years of age, it would not be a surprise to see him sent out on another loan to gain some valuable minutes, but Villa fending off interest from the likes of Forest can only be seen as a positive this summer.
