Aston Villa to pursue Samu Omorodion on one condition after Chelsea transfer collapse

Aston Villa will only pursue a deal for Samu Omorodion if Jhon Duran exits Villa Park ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Alan Hutton.

The Atletico Madrid striker has reportedly been offered to Bournemouth, Bayer Leverkusen and Unai Emery’s side this summer after his transfer to Chelsea collapsed at the last minute [Ben Jacobs, 12 August].

Villa have seen their own strikers targeted by other clubs in the last weeks, with West Ham United understood to be keen on Duran who played second fiddle to Ollie Watkins last term [Alex Crook, 4 August].

Although Hutton admits he doesn’t know too much about Omorodion’s style of play, he believes Emery and his coaching staff at Bodymoor Heath could get the best out of the forward, if Duran departs.

“It really depends on what happens with him,” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.

“I feel that if Duran stays, I think they’re in a good situation because Watkins plays nearly every single game and when Duran came in last season I really liked him.

“He was rough around the edges but you could really tell there was potential. He’s only young and he’s going to get better under the manager.

“If he was to go, then you need to bring someone in and I don’t know much about Omordion, I haven’t seen too much of La Liga so I can’t pinpoint exactly what he would come in and do.

“But I’m sure that the manager and his coaching staff have been keeping tabs all around the world so I’m sure they wouldn’t make any mistakes.”

Will Jhon Duran exit Aston Villa amid West Ham transfer rumours?

As Hutton suggests, in Duran and Watkins, Emery appears to have a strike force that should be able to manage the workload of a Premier League and Champions League campaign.

Jhon Duran has been linked with a move away from Aston Villa

With profit and sustainability rules putting the brakes on any further business at Villa Park, it does seem incredibly unlikely the Villans will accept the offer of Omorodion unless one of Duran or Watkins is sold in the coming weeks.

Speculation around both players’ futures has gone more than a little quiet over the last month or so and it would certainly be a surprise if either was to exit before the window slams shut.

Things can change in an instant at this stage of the window, however, so a move for the Atletico striker cannot be completely ruled out.
