Diego Carlos offer too good to refuse as Aston Villa in advanced talks for exit
Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa have a plan in place if Diego Carlos completes a transfer to Fulham.
Fabrizio Romano reported on 11 August that the Villans are in very advanced talks with the Cottagers over a move for the Brazilian.
Marco Silva is pushing to sign the 31-year-old with personal terms still yet to be agreed upon.
Carlos has missed Villa’s last three friendlies after being sent off against RB Leipzig which could point towards a move being close.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested Villa will move the centre back on if the right offer is made.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I have got time for Carlos. He suffered a really bad injury when he joined the club and he’s done well to come back from that.
“I think with the wages that he is on and because he doesn’t start in Villa’s best team when everyone is fit, I think he’s expendable.
“If they can get a bit of money and get his wages off the books then they’ll probably try to do that. The club could see it as an opportunity that is too good to turn down.
“They’ll need to get another centre back so it will be interesting to see if there is a contingency there if he does leave.“
Diego Carlos set to leave Aston Villa
Carlos has been a useful player under Unai Emery but it has to be said that he hasn’t lived up to his £26million price tag [BBC Sport].
There was lots of excitement from supporters when he joined from Sevilla but an injury ruined his early career at Villa Park.
This isn’t to say that he hasn’t had some shining moments in claret and blue with Man of the Match displays against Arsenal and Manchester City last season.
If Fulham come in with a positive offer, at 31, the Villans’ hierarchy may believe they should cash in while the defender has value.

With Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres being as good as they are, chances are set to be limited for Carlos and a move away could make sense for all parties.
