Cameron Archer does himself no favours for Aston Villa after stinking miss v Dortmund

Cameron Archer may have hurt his chances of regular minutes at Aston Villa after a dreadful miss against Borussia Dortmund.

The Villans fell to defeat in their final pre-season clash ahead of their Premier League opener against West Ham United.

Two quick-fire first-half goals from Emre Can and Julian Brandt were the difference at the Westfalenstadion in a fourth preseason defeat for Villa.

Unai Emery will be disappointed by the result but will be frustrated after what he saw Archer do after coming off the bench.

The ex-Sheffield United man came on in the 70th minute and had a guilt-edged chance immediately after entering the field.

This came after Gregor Kobel made an error to give the ball away to Leon Bailey who gave the Dortmund keeper a chance to get back.

Arguably the Jamaican should have got a shot off himself but eventually, the chance fell for Archer with the goal gaping.

With two defenders between him and the goal, the 22-year-old’s effort had to be pinpoint but that was miles away from the eventual strike.

Emery will have been disappointed to see his potential second or third-choice striker for the new season drag the ball well wide of the goal.

Archer put his head in his hands, signifying how big of a chance he had missed and how disappointed he was to have wasted the opportunity.

Two of his touches came in his poor miss in a moment that will have done him no favours with Emery ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
