Aston Villa in very advanced talks to sell Diego Carlos – Fabrizio Romano

Aston Villa are close to reaching an agreement with Fulham to sell Diego Carlos, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported on 11 August that talks are “very advanced” between the clubs with a transfer close to being agreed upon.

There is “still some work to do” over the structure of the deal and personal terms but the Cottagers are pushing hard to sign the 31-year-old.

Diego Carlos set to leave Aston Villa for Fulham

The Brazilian was a regular feature for the Villans last season and will represent a loss to the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Carlos featured in Unai Emery’s side’s three biggest results of the season with a double over Arsenal and a home win against Manchester City.

The former Sevilla man was colossal in those clashes, especially in his performance to keep Erling Haaland completely quiet at Villa Park.

With all that being said, a move away could prove to be a smart piece of business if the fee received from Fulham is too good to turn down.

At 31, Carlos is potentially past his peak and could begin to struggle with the pace of the Premier League depending on how he can alter his game.

With Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa at the club, the ex-Nantes star is always going to be playing second fiddle which he may not want to do at this stage of his career, which is very fair.

In other Aston Villa news, Unai Emery will be desperate for Tyrone Mings to make a return after what Pau Torres did against Dortmund.
