Aston Villa to upset fans with transfer decision amid ‘strange’ Cameron Archer exit news
Noel Egan doesn’t want to see Cameron Archer sold by Aston Villa amid interest in the player from Bournemouth.
The ex-FIFA referee and lifetime Villa supporter doesn’t believe the 22-year-old has been given enough of an opportunity at the club.
Archer netted the winner as Unai Emery’s side beat Athletic Bilbao 3-2 in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday 7 August.
As reported by Football London (2 August), Bournemouth are eyeing up Archer as a potential replacement for Dominic Solanke, who is linked with a move to Tottenham.
And Egan – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has conceded that the club might have no choice but to let the Villa academy graduate go.
“There is talk of Bournemouth lining up a move for Archer,” Egan said.
“Villa supporters didn’t want to see him leave when he went on loan to Sheffield United. Therefore, they probably don’t want to see him leave this time either.
“However, it is strange because it still wouldn’t be a surprise to see Archer sold to Bournemouth.
“I quite like Archer and I don’t think he has had a good enough opportunity at Villa. However, the question is will he want to remain part of the bigger picture?
“Villa supporters would welcome Archer staying at the club. However, perhaps he will need to be sold to avoid a PSR breach, and maybe, because of his ambitions, he might want first-team football elsewhere.”
Aston Villa to sell Cameron Archer to Bournemouth?
Archer has enjoyed a positive pre-season at Villa Park. However, if Solanke does leave Bournemouth, and the Cherries offer Archer regular first-team minutes, that might be hard for him to resist.
Villa supporters would no doubt want to see the player succeed considering he came through the club’s academy. However, Emery could make the decision to let him go.

If Archer is sold by Villa, the club will therefore need to sign a replacement, with Emery’s side particularly light up top.
In other Aston Villa news, the club have been backed to sign an “outstanding” Juventus star after a £17million transfer update.
