Aston Villa continue Joao Felix pursuit amid Atletico Madrid pre-season development
Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa are still interested in Joao Felix despite him featuring for Atletico Madrid in preseason.
The Portugal international started for Diego Simeone’s side in friendlies against Kitchee and Getafe, scoring against the latter.
These appearances have come over a week after Mundo Deportivo shared footage (26 July) of the 24-year-old training by himself.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist, Bardell has suggested preseason starts won’t affect Villa’s chances of signing the forward.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “He doesn’t have a future at Atletico.
“Whether or not players are staying at a club, they are still given minutes in preseason games because they are still an asset. I wouldn’t read too much into the fact that he played against Getafe in preseason.
“He’s certainly the type of player that Emery wants and that Villa are maintaining an interest in.
“I don’t think that deal is going to go away and is one that will rumble on throughout August.“
Aston Villa keep up Joao Felix interest
It seems clear that Emery is intent on bringing the former Benfica starlet in at Villa Park as his Moussa Diaby-type replacement.
Fabrizio Romano reported on 26 July that the Villans’ “dream target” was Felix and their interest has not gone away since.
Concern amongst supporters has grown since the forward returned to the Atleti side for their preseason clash against Getafe and tour in Hong Kong.
There is a chance now that with the signing of Julian Alvarez, the La Liga giants could now look to move their record signing on.

Villa need to remain patient and it feels as if Emery will get his man by the end of the window.
In other Aston Villa news, a groundbreaking transfer claim has emerged as the Villans are now keen on signing a two-time Champions League-winning attacking midfielder.
