Contract signed as Aston Villa Women announce Missy Bo Kearns signing from Liverpool

Aston Villa Women have completed a statement signing in the form of Liverpool midfielder Missy Bo Kearns.

The Villans announced the signing of the 23-year-old England youth international on their official website [1 August], with Kearns penning a three-year-deal at Villa Park.

Having spent her entire career to date on Merseyside, Kearns moves to Villa for £100,000 plus add-ons [BBC, 1 August], after netting 12 goals in 103 matches in all competitions for her hometown club.

Missy Bo Kearns transfer continues rebuild for Aston Villa Women

Not only is Kearns the second Liverpool midfielder to make the move to Villa Park this summer – after Miri Taylor last month – but is also a sixth first-team signing as the Villans look to refresh their squad.

Four players have headed the other way, including number one goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar and star forward Alisha Lehmann, and Kearns’ arrival can certainly help to make up for the loss of the latter.

Alisha Lehmann has become one of the stars of the WSL with Aston Villa Women.

While Kearns only managed one goal from 20 WSL appearances last season, her use as an impact substitute by Liverpool saw her minutes limited – something which looks set to change for the better.

Furthermore, last season’s top scorer Rachel Daly – whose retirement from England duty came following a record-breaking campaign with Villa – will certainly be glad of the added service provided by Kearns.

Kearns and England forward Katie Robinson from Brighton will therefore be welcome additions for the Villans, and the change of scenery could be exactly what the former needs to unlock her huge potential.
