Aston Villa to offer James Rodríguez two-year contract as transfer speculation emerges

Bryan King has backed Aston Villa to offer James Rodríguez a two-year contract at the club.

The ex-Villa scout claims the former Real Madrid star could be of benefit to Unai Emery.

As reported by TBR Football (23 July), Villa have been offered the chance to sign Rodríguez for free after the playmaker left Brazilian side São Paulo a year early.

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has speculated what kind of offer could be on the table.

“We’re talking about a player here with vast experience,” King said.

“If Villa are going to bring a player like Rodríguez in then they will be offering him a two-year contract.

“He did well in this year’s Copa America. Therefore, that has obviously been brought to the attention of Emery.

“Bringing in a player of his calibre can only help the cause. If he is fit, and if he wants to play for Villa, it could be beneficial.

“As a result of his age, I’d imagine he would be used as a squad player and used at important times of the season.”

Aston Villa to try and sign ex-Real Madrid star James Rodríguez?

This could prove to be quite the coup for Emery.

Bringing in a player with the experience of Rodríguez for free is a low-risk, high-reward move.

The Colombian has been there and done it at the highest level and that kind of experience could prove useful to have around the dressing room as the club prepare to compete in the UEFA Champions League.

In addition, Rodríguez was recently named the 2024 Copa America Player of the Tournament, demonstrating that he still has plenty of quality too.

As a result, it would be wise for Villa to pursue this transfer.
