Aston Villa surprise emerges as Fabrizio Romano drops £84million transfer news

Bryan King is shocked by how high Jaden Philogene’s release clause is at Aston Villa.

The ex-Villa scout has suggested that the club and Unai Emery likely hold high hopes for the 22-year-old.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (19 July), Philogene’s Aston Villa contract includes a release clause worth £84million.

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes this demonstrates how highly the club value the forward.

“I’m surprised by how high that release clause is,” King said.

“Clearly the club feel that he is going to be an important player and certainly a first-team regular. I’m just not sure where they get a figure of £84million from, that seems very strange to me.

“Obviously they want the player to stay for the duration of his contract, so this is one way of keeping him.”

Unai Emery has big plans for Jaden Philogene at Aston Villa

Philogene has re-signed for Villa after leaving the club last summer to join Hull City.

He impressed in the Championship with the Tigers, and Emery’s side moved quickly to bring him back to Villa Park.

While some supporters might have speculated that this move was simply a chance to add a cheap, quality option to their squad due to the sell-on clause they had for the player, this latest update suggests otherwise.

A release clause of £84m is a clear message that they value the player very highly.

Therefore, supporters can be sure to expect to see a lot of Philogene this season and beyond.
