Aston Villa to consider £50m Jacob Ramsey offer after Tottenham transfer developments
Aston Villa would only consider selling Jacob Ramsey for upwards of £50million this summer after new transfer developments, according to Alan Hutton.
The 23-year-old winger has been linked with a move away from Villa Park throughout the transfer window, with reports suggesting Premier League and top-four rivals Tottenham are known admirers [The Times, 27 June].
Unai Emery’s side have already balanced the books with the sales of Douglas Luiz to Juventus and Moussa Diaby to Al-Ittihad [Fabrizio Romano, 23 July], meaning they are under less pressure to sell their best players.
Although Hutton thinks the Villans would still have to consider a big-money offer for Ramsey, he admits he would like to see them keep the winger at Villa Park no matter what happens in the coming months.
“I think they’ll be looking for £50million,” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.
“He’s a very talented young footballer and it was really unfortunate that he got injured at the back end of last season.
“That gave an opportunity to Morgan Rogers to come in and he really shone if I’m totally honest and they really missed him when he picked up an injury at the end of the season as well.
“I would just hate to see him go, another young guy who has come through the youth ranks and done really well in the first team and you want to see them stay there and play well for Aston Villa.
“So I think they’ll be looking for upwards of £50million, but that being said, it is all profit for Villa so it might be something they would look at even though I wouldn’t want them to.”
Will Jacob Ramsey exit Aston Villa amid Tottenham transfer speculation?
There has already been plenty of upheaval at Villa Park this summer, most of which has been driven by the club’s need to comply with the Premier League’s financial fair play rules.
Although Emery has been able to make some quality additions to his side in Amadou Onana and Samuel Iling-Junior, he will be reluctant to lose any more players who played such a major role last season.

Ramsey may have been sidelined for much of the campaign, but when he was fit he still played a crucial part and he will only be more important now that Diaby has ended his stay in the Midlands.
Unless a genuinely massive offer arrives for the 23-year-old, it is hard to see why Villa would be willing to allow him to depart, especially to a team also competing for a place in the Champions League next term.
