Amadou Onana will be Aston Villa ‘main guy’ for Unai Emery amid injury recovery
Ty Bracey has backed Amadou Onana to be the defensive midfielder for Aston Villa while Boubacar Kamara is injured.
The Villans confirmed the signing of the Belgian international on 22 July via their official website in a deal worth £50 million [BBC Sport].
There is no shortage of midfield options in Unai Emery’s squad for next season which could reduce some players’ involvements.
Villa podcaster Bracey believes that the team will be heavily rotated and that Onana won’t hamper any other midfielder’s playing time.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I don’t necessarily taking anyone’s spot in the squad. I think he’s probably going to be the more defensive-minded midfielder in the side.
“Obviously, Kamara is out for a while so it won’t affect him until he’s back and Onana will be the main guy in front of the back four.
“It wouldn’t surprise me to see a double pivot once Kamara is back. Him and Douglas Luiz operated well in that set up last season.
“We’re going to have a massively congested schedule so there is going to be plenty of rotation so I don’t see any problems.“
Amadou Onana to be regular Aston Villa starter
The Villans certainly missed Kamara towards the end of last season with Douglas Luiz and Youri Tielemans being forced into further defensive duties.
This isn’t naturally a large part of their game so bringing in someone with the qualities of Onana is certainly a plus for Emery.
The Belgian international featured as a midfield destroyer behind Kevin de Bruyne at the EUROs and he will play similarly alongside Youri Tielemans next season.
A large outlay has been spent on the 22-year-old and there will be plenty of pressure on his shoulders.

There is no doubt that he has lots of potential and if anyone is going to help him realise this is Emery, so it is an exciting transfer for Villa fans to get excited for.
