Aston Villa to get ahead of PSR curve after new transfer developments at Villa Park

Dan Plumley has insisted that getting rid of big wages could help the PSR situation as much as bringing in transfer fees at Aston Villa this summer.

The football finance expert admitted that clubs can get ahead of the curve by making early sales, with Philippe Coutinho leaving on loan and Jhon Duran looking set to exit.

After previous PSR concerns before the recent June 30 deadline, Villa have already put their foot on the gas again, agreeing to a £50million move for Everton star Amadou Onana [Fabrizio Romano].

“It’s not just the transfer fee, it’s the wage bill as well,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“That helps with bringing the bosts down so both sides of that can help with PSR and getting ahead of the game.

It’s always a case of if you have players that you can or even want to shift and there is a deal to be done, it’s a good way to get ahead of the curve.

It doesn’t have to happen like that, but you run the risk of if you’re buying before selling and then you can’t sell, then you’ve got to budget for that situation as well.

Clubs will have different scenario modelling for these kind of things but when you consider not just the transfer fee of being able to shift a player, but crucially, getting higher earners of the wage bill can be just as good.”

Aston Villa in new PSR developments

With some, possibly all of Coutinho’s wages off the books at Vasco De Gama, and Duran potentially leaving for big money, both of those will help the PSR situation.

As the club enters the Champions League and looks to compete at the highest level consistently, staying ahead of the curve financially could be crucial.
