Aston Villa exit on for Jhon Duran after ‘mind-blowing’ West Ham United bid

Don Goodman admits to being amazed by the “mind-blowing” sum of money West Ham United have offered Aston Villa for Jhon Duran.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 9 July that West Ham have submitted multiple bids for Duran, the most recent worth around £35million.

Personal terms are said to have been agreed as the teams negotiate terms of a fee, but Goodman believes Villa should cash in now.

“The numbers being talked about are mind-blowing,” Goodman told Villa News. “We’re not talking about a proven Premier League player here, but rather one with potential.

“The fees are getting bigger by the year, and if that’s the going rate for Duran then that’s the going rate.

“I’ve got no doubt he’s a decent player, but he’s not better than Ollie Watkins and keeping him would be a bit of a gamble, particularly if you can get the type of money West Ham are said to be offering. That’s the best outcome for everybody involved.”

Aston Villa must accept West Ham United offer for Jhon Duran

Duran is attracting plenty of transfer interest and there is no doubt that Villa would like to keep him as back-up to Watkins.

However, it is becoming clear that the player wants a move and he can hardly be blamed for that given his lack of starts.

Only a large sum would sway the Villans, and that is very much the area West Ham are in with their reported bid.

If Villa can land around £35m for Duran, that money can be invested back into the squad on another player.

This transfer window is hugely important for the club, so it is understandable they want to take their time over certain decisions.

If Duran is indeed sold to West Ham, it is imperative that a new attacker is brought in before the new season gets up and running.

In other Aston Villa news, Goodman has reacted to news that the Villans could re-sign Jaden Philogene.
