Aston Villa close in on Jaden Philogene transfer as new contract update emerges at Villa Park
Jaden Philogene will return to Aston Villa from Hull City and sign a five-year deal with Unai Emery’s side, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialist reported via X on Friday (12 July) that the Villans have agreed on a deal worth £13million with the Tigers having activated the matching rights clause in his contract.
Unai Emery is understood to be eager to bring the England youth international back to Villa Park this summer and the final steps of the transfer including a medical are expected to be completed soon.
Writing on X, Romano said: “Jaden Philogene returns to Aston Villa after the club activated matching rights earlier this week! Deal worth £13m as Villa had 30 per cent sell-on clause included in agreement with Hull City.
“Philogene signs five-year deal, Emery wanted him back — medical and formal steps soon.”

It hasn’t always seemed like it would happen, but Aston Villa have managed to win the race for Philogene’s signature this summer and have beaten their Premier League rivals to the exciting winger.
The clause included in his original move to Hull always meant that it was Emery’s side who held the cards when it came to this transfer, but it hasn’t always been clear whether or not they were interested in completing the deal.
Emery was the man to allow him to leave last summer, however, he must have seen enough in the 22-year-old’s displays for the Tigers last term to suggest he is ready to make a real impact in the Premier League.
The Spaniard has shown that he can help Championship players make the step up in the past, most recently with Morgan Rogers and he will hope Philogene will adapt as quickly to the top flight as the former Middlesbrough star did in January.
Hopefully, the final details of this transfer will be ironed out without any late hiccups and this move can be confirmed sooner rather than later.
