Emiliano Martínez exit verdict emerges at Aston Villa after Manchester United transfer claim

Bryan King claims big clubs will be keeping an eye on Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.

The ex-Villa scout believes the 31-year-old is one of the best players in the Premier League in his position.

Gustavo Goni, Martínez’s agent, told TN Sports (5 July), “We don’t know where he will play, we are in conversations. Aston Villa want to keep him at all costs. He is priceless.

“Last year we were close to Manchester United, but the manager then opted to sign Andre Onana because he already knew him.

“But all those at Manchester maintained that the ideal goalkeeper to win with was Emiliano Martínez.”

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has had his say on Martínez’s future.

“There are always going to be big clubs looking at Martínez, King said.

“At one point last season, he was the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, and he is of course a World Cup winner.

“He has been an integral part of Villa’s progress over the past couple of years. If players do well there is going to be interest from other teams.

“All he can do is keep performing because that will guarantee he is selected for Argentina and it will keep him in the limelight in case he does want to eventually move on.”

Will Aston Villa be able to keep hold of Emiliano Martínez?

Keeping hold of Martínez will understandably be a priority for Unai Emery.

The Argentinian is one of the most high-profile shot-stoppers in the world and will be key to any success Villa have next season.

With the West-Midlands side having qualified for the UEFA Champions League, keeping hold of Martínez has become that bit easier.

However, if the club want to hold onto their number one long-term, then they will need to continue showcasing signs of progression on and off the pitch.

Otherwise, Martínez could go in search of one final big contract elsewhere.
