Aston Villa summer swap deal mooted for Matty Cash and Denzel Dumfries with Inter Milan

Aston Villa should consider an “outstanding” swap deal which would see Matty Cash join Inter Milan and Denzel Dumfries head the other way, according to Alan Hutton.

The Polish international’s future could lie away from Villa Park this summer with reports suggesting Inter Milan have joined their local rivals AC Milan in considering a summer move to bring the right back to Italy [Gianluca di Marzio, 19 June].

Emery is also understood to be interested in strengthening on the right side of his defence and reports have previously linked the Villans with a potential move for Inter’s Dutch international Dumfries [FC Internews, 8 February].

Although Hutton admits he thinks Cash has what it takes to continue to be a regular starter for Villa in the future, he thinks his exit would be much easier to deal with if Dumfries were to arrive in exchange.

“I really like Denzel Dumfries,” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.

“I think he’s an outstanding footballer. I remember seeing him years back when he was playing with the Netherlands and he was just up and down, very aggressive and he looked very difficult to get past as well.

“He’s a big guy with lots of experience and he knows what it’s like to play in front of big crowds. It can be hostile at times when you think of the big tournaments that he’s played in so that all helps.

“I think he’s slightly older than Cash, but that’s his position and he knows how to play it. He can play wing-back, he can play full-back so he’s versatile as well and that all helps.

“I like Matty Cash, I do like him as a player but I understand him maybe wanting to go and try something else, especially with one of the Milan teams.

“But I think if you’re getting a player like Dumfries coming the other way, I think that would be an outstanding signing.”

Can Aston Villa secure summer exit for Matty Cash amid transfer speculation?

While Cash has been reasonably consistent throughout his time at Villa Park, there has been a feeling around supporters and pundits for a while now that Emery would be keen to upgrade on the Polish right-back this summer.

Ezri Konsa is more than capable of playing on the right of a back four, but the England international doesn’t manage to impact games often enough in possession to play every week, especially in the Champions League.

Matty Cash could depart Aston Villa this summer

Dumfries is an experienced international who has experience at the top level both internationally and domestically. If he could be brought to Villa Park, he would have the required skillset to make a big difference next term.

Hopefully, some sort of swap deal can be agreed between the two parties but it will likely be tough to agree quickly this summer.
