Aston Villa could sign Adrien Rabiot after Douglas Luiz transfer developments
Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa could sign Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer as another replacement option for Douglas Luiz who has joined Juventus.
The Villans have announced via X (30 June) confirmation that the Brazilian has departed in a move to the Serie A giants.
A report from TEAMTalk (25 June) has suggested that the Villans are set to go head-to-head with Arsenal and Manchester United for Rabiot.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks that the Frenchman could be great under Unai Emery as a potential replacement for Luiz.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “He could leave them on a free so seems to be keeping his options open.
“He is a player that I really like. He’s an intelligent footballer, he’s tactically very good and has played in different positions, like outwide for France, even though he’s a central midfielder.
“I think he would suit the way that Unai Emery wants to work in terms of tactical situations. He would probably be out of Villa’s reach in terms of his wage demands and he probably thinks that he could play for an elite club.
“He’s a starter for France and has been a regular at Juventus. I wouldn’t hold out hope for Villa signing him but it would be a really exciting signing especially with Luiz leaving.“

The Villans knew that they had to sell players before the end of June to comply with Premier League PSR rules this summer.
This has already seen Tim Iroegbunam depart for Everton and now Villa have confirmed the departure of one of their best players.
The Brazilian joined in the summer before the Villans’ first season back in the top flight after promotion via the Championship play-offs.
The 26-year-old has gone on to be a success story from that transfer window and many fans will be gutted to lose Luiz this summer.
A move to Juventus may allow for cover for the outbound Rabiot who is yet to sign a new contract in Turin with plenty of suitors.
The Frenchman is a full international and is currently at the EUROs which will only improve Rabiot’s reputation if France does well.
With Luiz leaving, Emery will want a replacement and Rabiot could prove to be that if the finances are right.
