Jhon Duran in need of Aston Villa ‘reality check’ after £40m transfer news
Dan Bardell believes that Jhon Duran will leave Aston Villa this summer despite interest from Chelsea slowing down more recently.
The Blues do hold serious interest in the Colombian with Matt Law reporting (14 June) that they wanted to offer a long-term contract on cheaper wages.
Now Ben Jacobs has suggested (25 June) that Chelsea are “put off” by the £40million demand set by the Villans this summer.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks that the 20-year-old will depart Villa Park this summer but thinks the asking price must be altered.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I think Duran will go regardless of whoever comes in.
“His days at Villa seem to be over even if the Chelsea links have cooled down recently but that might all kick off again after the 30 June PSR deadline.
“I felt that he needed a reality check over the last six or seven months if he thought he should be starting more, ahead of Ollie Watkins.
“I think he was at the best place for his development and he has basically thrown that in Emery’s face a little bit. It is clear that he is open to a move and that Villa will sell him but is anyone really going to pay so much to get him in based on what they’ve seen?
“£40m doesn’t really feel right to me in the current climate, Villa paid between £15m and £20m so if they can make any profit that’s a good position to be in.“
Jhon Duran mooted for Aston Villa departure
The Villans are almost stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to Duran this summer which is far from ideal.
He has made it clear over the past year with his social media activity that he wants to move to Chelsea and there is interest there.
Whether it be his wage demands or the fee Villa want, it seems like a deal between all parties has stalled this summer ahead of the PSR deadline.
There is potential that a move to Stamford Bridge may be more on the cards after 30 June when funds may be more readily available to clubs.

Duran is a useful squad player at Villa Park right now and certainly has plenty of potential but it doesn’t appear as if his attitude is right.
There have been no direct mentions of this from Emery and Co. but based on the past two transfer window rumours alone, a move seems to make sense for all parties.
