Douglas Luiz to undergo Juventus medical today as new Aston Villa exit update emerges
Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz will undergo his medical tests to become a Juventus player today, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The journalist reported via his X account on Thursday (27 June) that the Brazilian international will complete his medical in his national side’s camp as they continue their Copa America campaign.
Once those tests are completed, the Villa star will put pen to paper with the Italian giants on a five-year deal which will see both Samuel Illing Junior and Enzo Barrenechea make the move in the other direction to Villa Park.
Has Douglas Luiz left Aston Villa to complete summer transfer to Juventus?
While it hasn’t made it any easier for Villa supporters, it has been obvious for some time now that Luiz would be leaving Villa Park before the start of next season as interest continued to mount in his signature week after week.
The Brazilian had been one of Unai Emery’s best players last season, but that excellent form was always going to mean that it was hard to keep him around, especially with profit and sustainability ruled causing problems throughout the Premier League.
Whether or not Villa could have held out for a greater transfer fee rather than two players in exchange for the midfielder’s services is up for debate, but Emery will back himself to get the best out of both Iling-Junior and Barrenechea.
Hopefully, both players will hit the ground running in claret and blue and then Emery and Monchi can begin looking to replace Luiz in the middle of the park. With Champions League football on the horizon, reinforcements are needed.
Ultimately, it will likely be only a few hours until Luiz’s exit is finally officially confirmed by Aston Villa themselves.
