Aston Villa ready to sanction Cameron Archer exit as Bournemouth transfer update emerges

Aston Villa will try to cash in on Cameron Archer during the summer transfer window following his return from Sheffield United, according to Alan Hutton.

The striker spent last season at Brammall Lane where he scored four goals in 30 Premier League games, but the Blades’ relegation from the top flight meant a clause was activated in his contract which would see him return to Villa Park.

Although Unai Emery has been tipped to hand the 22-year-old another opportunity to impress over the course of pre-season, reports have suggested that Bournemouth are weighing up a potential approach for his services [Birmingham World, 27 June].

While Hutton has always admitted he is a big fan of the England youth international, he believes it would be in both his and the club’s interest if he were to leave the Villans on a permanent basis once again this summer.

“It’s been very up and down hasn’t it,” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.

“It just looks to me that it will be a case of trying to move him on and getting the money in again. You want to see these guys stay and really get an opportunity but it was always going to be difficult.

“I can’t remember what the price tag was for him to go to Sheffield United but it was always going to be difficult there in a team that’s fighting relegation and you’re trying to show everyone what you’re capable of.

“I like him as a player, I just thought he would be down the pecking order and I think that’s still the case for me.”

Has Cameron Archer returned to Aston Villa ahead of summer transfer window at Villa Park?

The summer transfer window may only be a matter of days old, but Villa have done everything it can to try and balance the books this summer with several big names and homegrown stars heading towards the exit door.

With profit and sustainability regulations looming over clubs in the Premier League, the Villans need to be clever in their approach to this summer’s window and the sale of Archer would aid the current financial situation.

The 22-year-old is unlikely to be a regular under Emery next season. When Ollie Watkins is fit he tends to lead the line and Jhon Duran appears to be the Spaniard’s preferred backup at the top end of the pitch.

With other forwards also being linked with moves to Villa Park ahead of the start of next season, Archer is going to be little more than a rotation option if he stays put. Ultimately, it would be best for all parties if an exit could be completed this summer.
