Moussa Diaby sold, Tammy Abraham in five new signings – Aston Villa XI for 2024/25 opener
With a number of ins and outs expected at Aston Villa this summer, Unai Emery’s eleven for the first Premier League game of the 2024/25 season against West Ham United may have a different look to it.
With Lewis Dobbin already confirmed as a summer signing, the Villans will be keen to add further to their squad throughout the summer.
There will also be players from throughout the squad for various reasons including PSR and a general lack of game time last season.
Aston Villa potential starting XI after summer signings
It is extremely unlikely that Villa will look to replace Emi Martinez this summer so he will maintain his role as number one.
Although he played most of last season at right back, Ezri Konsa could come back into the centre and play alongside Pau Torres who had an excellent debut season.
The full-back roles are bound to change, especially with the incoming transfer of Ian Maatsen which is set to be announced after medical tests.
With Alex Moreno linked with a return to Spain, the Dutchman could come straight into the starting XI under Emery next season.
On the other side, Matty Cash has gained interest from AC Milan [Calcio Mercato] which could see January signing Kosta Nedeljkovic start despite being just 18 years old.
With Boubacar Kamara injured until later in the year, John McGinn could line up alongside Youri Tielemans in the heart of midfield, even if Ross Barkley comes in from Luton Town.
On the right, after a terrific season, Leon Bailey could maintain his place and continue his importance in Emery’s squad moving forward.
On the left-hand side, Samuel Iling-Junior could provide Maatsen with a licence to get forward given his defensive tendencies.
He looks set to join the Villans as part of the deal which could see Douglas Luiz join Juventus this summer.

Ollie Watkins had a season to remember as he won the playmaker award in the Premier League while scoring 27 goals in all competitions. He is likely to keep his role in the starting XI next season.
Alongside him, last campaign was typically Moussa Diaby but Emery could opt for a different approach moving forward.
This may be enforced after Moussa Diaby was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia [Daily Mail] and Villa may look to cash in this summer.
After being linked to Tammy Abraham, the Villans could be more direct when needed. The Englishman could start up front alongside Watkins in a new-look front two.
