Aston Villa player completes medical to leave Villa Park, contract signed today

Aston Villa have completed a deal with Chelsea that will see Omari Kellyman transfer to Stamford Bridge for a £19million fee, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing on X (25 June), Romano said that the 18-year-old midfielder successfully completed his medical tests on Tuesday and will become a new Chelsea player.

He added that the contract will be valid until June 2030 with an option for a further year.

Romano finished by saying that the deal “will be official this week”.

Kellyman is a perfect match for Chelsea under Enzo Maresca

As Chelsea gear up for the 2024/25 Premier League season, the appointment of Enzo Maresca as head coach has brought about a fresh era.

Maresca’s arrival, following a successful stint at Leicester, will most likely mean a tactical overhaul that’s focussed on positional play and possessional dominance. This bodes well for Kellyman who will hope to shine in West London.

Maresca’s 4-3-3 formation, transforming into a 3-2-5 in possession, demands versatile players who thrive in fluid, high-tempo environments. Kellyman, known for his direct running, intelligent positioning, and ability to navigate tight spaces, fits this mould perfectly.

His athleticism and tactical awareness align well with Maresca’s philosophy, meaning he will be able to exploit the spaces created by Maresca’s system.

Moreover, Kellyman’s ability to shield the ball under pressure and make incisive runs mirrors the movement required by Maresca’s advanced midfielders.

His potential to link play and stretch defences complements the roles envisioned in Chelsea’s attacking setup.

As Maresca builds a team capable of dominating possession and breaking down rigid defences, Kellyman’s skills and adaptability make him an ideal fit for this new Chelsea vision.
