Matty Cash sale condition named for Aston Villa amid ‘incredible’ AC Milan transfer news
Aston Villa will want to make sure a replacement is sourced before they contemplate selling Matty Cash amid reports AC Milan are interested in his signature, Alan Hutton has said.
It was reported by Birmingham Mail journalist John Townley (12 June) that Villa have slapped a £30million price tag on Cash as they are keen to keep him at the club this summer.
Former Villa defender Hutton thinks the sum is a fair price for Cash.
Speaking to Villa News, Hutton said: “I think it will come down to if they can get their targets in through the door, if it comes down to a time where it’s like ‘okay we’ve negotiated with X player, he’s willing to come, fees have been agreed’ then it’s the same with Matty Cash.
“It’s a sort of simple one in, one out and you can work with that. But you just have to wait and see, you see these windows it can just drag on and it takes forever, I think that’s a good fee for him.
“This is a guy who wasn’t a right-back a few years ago, he’s turned himself into one and he’s worked really hard at it.
“With an opportunity to move to AC Milan, it’s quite incredible. Sometimes a move suits you and it might for him but they’ll need to get somebody in.
“I know they’ve got Ezri Konsa there but for me, they’ve only got one full-back.”
Will Aston Villa look to cash-in on Matty Cash?
It’s a really tough one to view from an Aston Villa point of view this one.
On the one hand, if they could get £30m for his services then it represents a profit on the reported £16m they paid to Nottingham Forest for his signature back in September 2020 (BBC Sport).
On the other, Cash is a very good full-back and to replace him would not necessarily come too cheap so Unai Emery and his backroom team would have to make sure anyone coming in can do a better job and for a decent price.
It’s a hard one to call as to whether Villa will sell but if it does meet that asking price then you wouldn’t be too shocked to see it happen.
