Aston Villa told to let Jhon Duran go with Chelsea deal close to completion

Ty Bracey believes Aston Villa should let Jhon Duran leave to join Chelsea this summer and sign Ian Maatsen in a makeshift swap deal.

Matt Law has reported for the Telegraph (14 June) that the Blues want to give the Colombian a long-term contract on cheaper wages.

This may slow down a deal to see him move to Stamford Bridge while Villa are pushing ahead to sign Maatsen this summer [David Ornstein].

Villa podcaster Bracey has urged the Villans to let Duran go, and sign the Dutchman, after he showed an interest in leaving the club.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “That now doesn’t look like it is going to be a swap deal.

It looks like Villa have said if you buy Duran we’ll buy one of your players and Chelsea need that. They need to get players off the books this summer.

I would take Maatsen for sure but I think he only signs if Duran goes there. If reports are to be believed then it looks like we’ll bid if they do as well.

We don’t know what Duran’s wage demands are but if that’s what he wants then let him go. There’s a player in there but I have no time for any player who openly wants to leave Aston Villa.

Aston Villa pushing for Ian Maatsen deal with Chelsea

Duran has been in talks with Chelsea over a potential £40m move [The Guardian] for weeks and it appears that it could be edging closer.

With the PSR concerns that both Villa and the Blues have to deal with, swap deals have become more popular this window.

With the Colombian off to Stamford Bridge and Maatsen set for Villa Park with a fee for each included, this will help balance the books of both sides.

The Villans have shown an interest in signing a new left-back for a while as they look to move on one of Lucas Digne or Alex Moreno this summer.

Maatsen has plenty of room to grow as a 22-year-old, especially with the opportunity to work under Unai Emery moving forward.

If his performances on loan at Borussia Dortmund are anything to go by then Villa fans have a lot to be excited about.

Duran wants out and Villa wants Maatsen so a deal seems to make sense for all parties this summer.
