Aston Villa in advanced talks to complete ‘Morgan Rogers-type signing’ after Fabrizio Romano news
Dan Bardell has compared the signing of Morgan Rogers in January to Lewis Dobbin as he edges closer to a move to Aston Villa from Everton.
Fabrizio Romano has reported (21 June) that the Villans are in “advancing talks” to sign the 21-year-old this summer.
This has been done in cooperation with the Toffees who are set to sign Tim Iroegbunam with the transfer specialist suggesting a £9 million fee is involved.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has compared a deal for Dobbin to Rogers in a move that will help deal with PSR concerns.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I wasn’t that sure that they’d need Morgan Rogers and that he’d be, thanks to injuries somewhat, a key player straight away.
“No one comes into the club without Emery giving the ok and it being someone that he can work with. There isn’t a natural fit for him in the squad right now.
“He has room to grow and has been highly rated at Everton. He may prove to be a Morgan Rogers-type signing, someone who comes in and hits the ground running.
“I think it’s more so for the future and to cover the squad if someone leaves before 30 June for PSR.“
Aston Villa set to sign Lewis Dobbin
The Villans certainly have PSR concerns to deal with this summer which they need to work around before the upcoming deadline.
This has seen Villa push towards a sale for Douglas Luiz with Juventus which will involve a swap deal for Samuel Iling-Junior and potentially Weston McKennie.
Jhon Duran could be set for a move to Chelsea this month while Ian Maatsen looks set for Villa Park as a deal edges closer.
Dobbin is a deal which seems a bit unnecessary given the depth that Villa have in attacking areas even before the transfer window.
Rogers signed from Middlesbrough in a similar deal and proved to be an extremely positive addition until he picked up an injury.

The Everton youngster has plenty of pace and could potentially do with a positive loan spell away to gain some proper experience.
He could prove to be a positive signing this summer and certainly one for the future more so than the present.
