Aston Villa surprise emerges after new Douglas Luiz transfer development

Bryan King is surprised by the deal Aston Villa are prepared to agree with Juventus for Douglas Luiz.

The ex-Villa scout claims that the Serie A side has come out from negotiations the better of the two clubs.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano (13 June), Luiz has agreed personal terms with Juventus ahead of his transfer to Turin.

Unai Emery’s side looks set to receive £16.8million plus Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling Jr.

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes the West-Midlands-based club could have squeezed more out of the transfer.

“It sounds to me like Juventus got the better deal here,” King said.

“Luiz is an established player and is worth a lot more than this.

“It sounds like the Juventus boss didn’t fancy these two players which is why they have been included in the deal.

“Even £25milliion would have been a low offer. I am surprised, but if that is the deal then that is the deal.”

Douglas Luiz set to leave Aston Villa and join Juventus

Only time will tell whether or not Villa got a good deal for Luiz.

While the figure is low, that won’t matter if both McKennie and Illing Jr hit the ground running at Villa Park.

If that were to happen, then supporters would likely see this transfer as a good deal for the club.

However, if McKennie in particular struggles to adapt, then Villa will find themselves needing to spend money to replace the hole Luiz has left behind in midfield.

Luiz was crucial for the club last season and Emery will hope that his absence isn’t felt.
