Reece James backed to join Aston Villa on loan as Chelsea claim emerges
Bryan King claims Reece James could leave Chelsea to join Aston Villa on loan.
The ex-Villa scout believes the defender could benefit from escaping Stamford Bridge temporarily.
According to The Mirror (31 May) James is a potential target for Villa. However, a move is seen as unlikely, even if it does mean extra cash for Chelsea.
With Chelsea unlikely to sell James, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has suggested that the right-back could perhaps make a temporary switch.
“He could move there on loan,” King said.
“Sometimes you need a move like that to shake things up, which James could benefit from.
“Perhaps the new Chelsea boss doesn’t fancy him. I think a transfer away from Stamford Bridge, even just on loan, could be a boost for him.
“Getting away from that unsure environment at Chelsea could be a good thing.”
Could Aston Villa sign Reece James on loan from Chelsea?
In some ways, this move makes plenty of sense.
Villa need to strengthen their squad as they prepare to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season.
And right-back is perhaps the position that most needs upgrading.
James has struggled with injuries at Stamford Bridge and a change of environment, albeit temporarily, could help him get his career back on track.
It would also mean Chelsea reducing their wage bill next season as the club look to cut costs wherever they can.

Whether or not this move goes ahead remains to be seen, but if it does, it would certainly represent an exciting addition to Unai Emery’s squad.
In other Aston Villa news, the club are set to lose out as Douglas Luiz nears a move to Juventus.
