Aston Villa transfer news as Douglas Luiz agrees personal terms with Juventus
Douglas Luiz is closing on an exit from Aston Villa after agreeing personal terms with Juventus, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The prominent Italian journalist posted on his official X account on Thursday (13 June) to confirm that Villa will accept a deal that sees them receive Weston McKennie, Samuel Iling-Junior and a fee of around £16.8million.
Romano added that McKennie is just sorting the terms of his exit from the Serie A giants and once that detail is sorted the deal will receive the green light.
Aston Villa set to lose Douglas Luiz to Juventus
This deal is a bit of tricky one to comprehend for Villa and their supporters.
On the one hand they are losing an absolutely exceptional talent and the Brazilian midfielder would have been a shrewd addition for pretty much any European giant, including those in the Premier League.
It also means they are losing a star player ahead of having a crack at the Champions League next season, which really is a huge shame.
But, on the other hand, the sale of Douglas Luiz will help ensure they stay within Profit and Sustainability limits, and a sale of one of Villa’s main talents always looked on the cards this summer.
Plus in return it looks like they are getting Iling-Junior, a forward who still has plenty of potential and time to develop. It also looks like McKennie is on his way to Villa Park too.
Now, sure, the United States midfielder struggled the last time he was in the Premier League during a loan spell with Leeds United but Unai Emery is an excellent coach and someone you can trust to get the most out of the midfielder.
All in all, there will be a big element of sadness about losing an influential player but maybe, just maybe, the sum of the whole parts will end up being stronger.
In other Aston Villa news, a former club employee thinks this ace should be signed as Douglas Luiz’s replacement.
