Aston Villa backed to replace Douglas Luiz with Conor Gallagher amid £50m transfer update

Bryan King claims Conor Gallagher would be a suitable replacement for Douglas Luiz at Aston Villa.

The ex-Villa scout believes the Chelsea midfielder and Brazillian are both on the same level.

Luiz looks set to join Juventus as part of a player-plus-cash deal including Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling Jr (via Fabrizio Romano, 11 June).

Meanwhile, Gallagher has been identified as a top target by Villa and would cost in the region of £50million (via The Mirror, 9 June).

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – doesn’t think Unai Emery’s side would be affected by the midfield change.

“Gallagher would be a good replacement for Luiz,” King said.

“Being involved in the UEFA Champions League would be a big plus for any player joining Villa.

“I think Gallagher would slot in seamlessly, he is in that Douglas Luiz bracket for sure.”

Conor Gallagher will need time to settle in at Aston Villa

Should Villa end up selling Luiz and signing Gallagher as his replacement, Villa supporters are unlikely to have too many complaints.

However, while there is no doubting Gallagher’s quality, he will need time.

It would be unfair of supporters to expect the 24-year-old to hit the heights of Luiz right away.

Allowing Gallagher that time would help take some pressure off the Englishman.
