NSWE told Aston Villa and Juventus deal for Douglas Luiz doesn’t add up after transfer update
Alan Hutton has told Aston Villa and their owners NSWE that the proposed swap deal with Juventus for Douglas Luiz this summer “doesn’t add up”.
The 26-year-old was in exceptional form for Unai Emery’s side last season, scoring nine goals and laying on five assists in the Premier League to help the Villans book their place in next season’s Champions League.
However, the Brazilian now looks set to depart Villa Park this summer with the Villans and Juventus close to agreeing on a swap deal that will see £16.9million, Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior head in the other direction [Fabrizio Romano, 11 June].
Although Hutton thinks both Juventus players have shown promise during their time in Italy, he thinks that Villa have got the worse end of the deal by losing one of their standout stars for such a small fee.
“I think Iling-Junior is a good winger,” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.
“He’s a very good player and you can see that he’s technically very gifted, he likes running at people and he can make things happen so I do understand that.
“McKennie I’m not sure about. There has been a lot of hype around him for several years and whenever I’ve seen him, I admit I’ve not watched him regularly, but he’s not been a standout and I’m looking at a guy in Douglas Luiz who is one of the main men.
“He’s one of the reasons they are where they are now. If Juventus want to come in for him and they’re going to pay £50million-plus, no problem that’s fine because that is money that will come into the club and then you can decide who you want to buy.
“But when it’s two players, these are two players that Juventus don’t really want so it doesn’t add up to me. You get one of the best players from Aston Villa who are playing in the Champions League next year and Villa get two players that you just want rid of.
“It just doesn’t really add up for me.”
Will Aston Villa sell Douglas Luiz to Juventus during the summer transfer window at Villa Park?
It does seem bizarre that the Villans are willing to let one of their best players leave for under £20million this summer, especially when most fans and pundits expected the Villans to charge top dollar for his services.
Although two players have been included in the deal, neither of them are anywhere near the standard of Luiz. It feels as though Emery’s side have short-changed with this offer, even though they seem to be willing to agree to it.
Most Villa supporters will be hoping that this transfer somehow falls through at the final hurdle, but at this moment in time, it seems as though the 26-year-old will be plying his trade for the Old Lady next term.
