Douglas Luiz close to Aston Villa exit as Juventus boss Thiago Motta green lights transfer

Aston Villa and Juventus are more than close to a final agreement to see Douglas Luiz leave Villa Park this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported via X on Tuesday (11 June) that new Juventus manager Thiago Motta has given the deal the green light and is willing to include Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior as part of the deal.

While a £16.9million fee (€20million) will be included in the transfer as well, personal terms have already been discussed for all three players to ensure that a deal is closer than ever at Villa Park.

Writing on X, Romano said: “Juventus manager Thiago Motta has given green light to Douglas Luiz swap deal. Juventus and Aston Villa are more than close to final agreement!

“Weston McKennie, Samuel Iling Jr. and €20m fee to Aston Villa as revealed. Personal terms for all players now discussed.”

Will Aston Villa and Monchi sell Douglas Luiz to Juventus during the summer transfer window at Villa Park?

After a season of such highs under Unai Emery at Villa Park, Villa supporters will be gutted to hear that one of the most important parts of the Spaniard’s squad is set to walk away so early on in the summer window.

While profit and sustainability regulations were always going to make it hard to keep the likes of Luiz and Ollie Watkins this summer, most Villans would have expected to receive a larger fee for the Brazilian’s services.

Although the inclusion of Iling-Junior and McKennie in the deal makes it slightly more palatable, neither star has ever impressed in the Premier League. It would be naive to assume they could fill the void left by Luiz.

It does seem that this deal is closer than ever before at Villa Park and unless something changes quickly, the Brazilian will have played his final game in an Aston Villa shirt. Hopefully, somehow, the deal will collapse in the 11th hour.
