Aston Villa to reach Emiliano Martinez ‘compromise’ as behind-the-scenes drama emerges

Bryan King claims Emiliano Martinez should be thinking more about Aston Villa after he threatened to “fight” the club on a recent decision.

The ex-Villa scout believes the goalkeeper should respect his club’s wishes.

It comes after Villa blocked Martinez’s chance to feature at the 2024 Olympics with Argentina, with the shot-stopper claiming he is willing to “fight” the club’s stance while in conversation with TyC Sports (via Birmingham Live, 6 June).

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has reminded the player who is really in charge.

“He will hardly have a break if he plays at the Olympics, but then again, who wouldn’t want to play at the Olympics?” King said.

“However, he is under contract. If Villa say he can’t go then he can’t go.

“Perhaps he will be allowed to play in a couple of the games as a compromise, but he should be thinking about his club.

“It is Villa who are paying his wages, not Argentina.”

Emiliano Martinez must respect any decision made by Aston Villa

Understandably, Martinez wants to represent his country at the Olympics.

That is a dream of many players, and at the age of 31, the goalkeeper is running out of time to fulfil that dream.

But he must respect that his employers have different plans.

While he might not like that decision, fighting it is not a good look.

Villa are the club that pay his wages and offer him the platform to be selected for Argentina, and Martinez might need to be reminded of that fact.
