Aston Villa to force through player sale before 30 June to ‘comply’ with regulations
Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa could struggle in June to sell a player after NSWE’s proposal to increase PSR losses was rejected at the Premier League AGM.
John Percy reported (6 June) that the Villans proposed that the losses allowed by profit and sustainability rules should be increased.
NSWE suggested that an increase in allowed losses from £105m to £135m over a three-year period but 15 Premier League clubs voted against this prospect.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that this could now force Villa into selling a star by the end of June to comply with the current rules.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I think it’s a blow. Obviously, the club are trying to push that through and you’d imagine that the difference in the two sums would alleviate Villa’s PSR problems.
“They’re now potentially going to have to sell someone by 30 June and from what I’m hearing they’re looking to shift someone to comply.
“I don’t think they are alone in that but in a summer where there’s an international tournament, the market is typically slow. It’s a difficult situation for Villa from everything that I’m hearing about it.“
NSWE lose out in Aston Villa PSR proposal
Villa brought forward this proposal and the general consensus in the media was that fellow Premier League clubs would be on board.
This would have allowed every team in the division an additional £30m worth of wiggle room in terms of losses which could serve as a benefit to most.
It is safe to say that the majority were against this with Villa and just one other club in favour while 15 were totally against. Three abstained and decided not to vote.
This will be of great frustration to NSWE and Co. who clearly believed that this was going to be passed to give them some benefit ahead of a Champions League campaign.
Now Unai Emery looks set to lose at least one star player such as Douglas Luiz who has been heavily linked with a move away [Sky Sports].
This could be a setback but it will be typical of NSWE that they take it in their side and continue to move forward with Aston Villa.
