Aston Villa backed to sign Kalvin Phillips as Manchester City update emerges

Bryan King claims Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips would be a smart signing for Aston Villa.

The ex-Villa scout believes the 28-year-old would add much-needed depth to Unai Emery’s squad.

It comes after a report in the Daily Mirror (page 65, 1 June) revealed that Phillips will be allowed to leave City on a season-long loan, with Villa one of the clubs interested.

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – is in favour of the idea.

“I think he would be a good signing for Villa, without a doubt,” King said.

“He is a quality player who would complement the squad.

“He could act as a perfect rotational option for Emery.”

Kalvin Phillips would have a point to prove with Aston Villa

There is no getting away from Phillips’ disastrous loan spell with West Ham United.

Things didn’t go well for the ex-Leeds United man at the London Stadium.

As a result, he will feel as if he has a point to prove, now more than ever.

That could play into Emery’s hands.

If the Spaniard could unlock Phillips’ full potential, he could be a very smart addition, especially with UEFA Champions League football on the agenda next season.
