Aston Villa hold preliminary talks to complete big-name signing, Unai Emery ‘huge admirer’

Aston Villa have held talks with Chelsea over a move for Conor Gallagher with him said to be a top target this summer, according to David Ornstein.

The transfer specialist has reported (4 June) that the Villans are in contact with the midfielder’s representatives.

Unai Emery is a “huge admirer” of the Englishman who has been named as a “top target” for Villa in the summer transfer window.

Talks with Chelsea over the potential transfer of Gallaghers have been held ahead of a potential move.

Aston Villa set for Conor Gallagher move

The Villans have been linked to various stars this summer as they look to prepare their squad for next season ahead of Champions League football.

With FFP and PSR concerns that surround the club ahead of the transfer window, there may need to be sales to facilitate signings.

This has seen Douglas Luiz linked with a move to Juventus [Sky Sports] in a move which could bring in plenty of transfer funds for Emery and Monchi.

If that sale goes through then the Brazilian will need replacing and Gallagher could prove to be a useful replacement next season.

The Englishman is a box-to-box midfielder who was one of Chelsea’s most important and consistent players under Mauricio Pochettino.

This saw him score five goals and assist seven across 37 Premier League appearances which is a positive return for a midfielder.

If he is paired with a defensive-minded midfielder, like Boubacar Kamara, he will have licence to get forward where he could thrive.

This could prove to be a coup for Aston Villa and Emery if they are to land Gallagher from Chelsea this summer.
