Aston Villa seduced by French centre-forward they now want to sign in summer deal

Aston Villa are one of many teams interested in signing Mathis Lambourde from Stade Rennais this summer, according to Foot Mercato.

The 18-year-old has broken into the Rennes first team this season which has now seen many sides across Europe enquire about his services ahead of the transfer window.

The Villans have been named alongside “several Bundesliga clubs” to be considering a move for the Frenchman this summer.

Villa are said to be showing interest after being “seduced by his athletic qualities, his leadership and his winning mentality” which could make him a useful Premier League player.

Who is Aston Villa target Mathis Lambourde?

The Villans have been in need of a striker to deputise Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran in the first team in case of injury to either.

Talks between the club and new striker signings could be accelerated by the potential departure of Jhon Duran this summer after links to Chelsea.

This has sparked Villa’s interest in Lambourde who at just 18 years old could become a squad option under Unai Emery.

The Frenchman has flown under the radar this season for Stade Rennais after making his first appearances in Ligue 1.

It is unclear whether he will receive more game time next season after featuring in just one league match last season under Julien Stephan.

This could give Villa and Emery the chance to step in and potentially offer Lambourde more minutes in a better league.

Although there may not be any guarantees at Villa Park, the chance of playing in England at 18 may be too much to turn down.

Lambourde is the sort of player that Monchi is looking at now as Villa look to deal with financial worries this summer.

In other Aston Villa news, the club are interested in Olympiacos striker Ayoub El Kaabi.
