Aston Villa player-plus-cash deal mooted for Connor Gallagher and Jhon Duran with Chelsea
Dan Bardell has suggested that a swap deal between Aston Villa and Chelsea to see Connor Gallagher come in and Jhon Duran leave could be beneficial for both sides.
There has been plenty of controversy involving the Colombian and his social media presence linking him to the Blues this campaign.
This has coincided with a report from talkSPORT (18 May) that has suggested the Villans are interested in signing the Englishman.
Sky Sports journalist Bardell believes that Chelsea could be forced to sell him and a swap deal could prove to benefit both parties.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I struggle to see where Gallagher would fit in Villa’s team. He’s perhaps capable of playing in one of the wide midfield spots like John McGinn.
“It’s a funny one, a bit like Jacob Ramsey with Villa, I don’t think Chelsea would want to lose him. He’s been in their top three players this season and someone that Pochettino depended on.
“The thing is the only way to get around their PSR issues is to sell a homegrown player. He’s a player that I’ve always liked and I’d be happy to get him on board but the fee would have to be low for Villa which wouldn’t suit Chelsea.
“If they can do something clever with Duran that can work financially then I’d be all for that.“
Aston Villa could swap Jhon Duran for Conor Gallagher
This could prove to be a useful swap deal for both sides but would leave more gaps than it would fill in the long term.
Villa would have to replace Duran with a new striker in the transfer window while Chelsea would need a new central midfielder.
Given the financial restraints that are set to affect both sides this summer, needless transfer complications could be caused.
Gallagher has been one of the Blues’ best players in a season which has often faltered but ended on a positive note with a sixth-place finish.
He could prove to be a useful addition in the heart of the midfield for Unai Emery although it is unclear whose place he would take in the team.

This could also be levelled at Duran at Stamford Bridge as he isn’t currently better than Nicholas Jackson or Christopher Nkunku.
As a result, the Colombian striker would be in a similar or worse position in a squad than he currently finds himself in.
On first thought this deal seems to make sense, delving deeper seems to cause more problems than it may prove to be worse.
