Leicester ace Wilfred Ndidi Aston Villa medical claim emerges amid transfer links

Leicester City Wilfred Ndidi may fail his medical this summer amid transfer links to Aston Villa, Newcastle and Tottenham, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that he’s battled multiple issues all the way since 2021 and even in the 2023/24 season, his fitness was far from ideal.

With his contract running out this summer, the likes of Villa, Newcastle and Spurs are all looking to snap up the 27-year-old on a free transfer. [HITC, 8 April]

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientisttold Villa News:

He missed a considerable period of time in 2021/22 with a knee injury and then faced up to three months out the following season with a muscle injury.

Even this past season, his fitness has been far from ideal.

My advice to a club in the market to sign him would be to make sure you have the depth to be patient to not rush him back and not rely on him if something does occur.

Players can get into these vicious injury cycles where previous injuries and a loss of fitness create significant risk.

Typically to fail a medical, there will have to be an unforeseen issue or something crops up that is too high risk for the medical team which could be the case here.

Aston Villa must weigh the risks and rewards to sign Wilfred Ndidi

At 27, Ndidi is arguably at the peak of his career and is Premier League proven, so signing him on a free transfer makes sense.

However, to secure his services ahead of the aforementioned clubs, the Villans may have to offer a significant financial incentive to the Nigeria international.

Also, given his fitness issues, Unai Emery may ask the club to look elsewhere as he’s already seen a number of injury troubles this past season at Villa Park.
