Aston Villa could replace Diego Carlos with Ronald Araujo as £68m update emerges
Ty Bracey is unsure about Aston Villa being linked to Ronald Araujo but believes he would be a good signing for the right price.
The Villans have been linked to the Barcelona star in a report by Sport (20 May) in a move which could see the Uruguayan replace the outbound Diego Carlos.
The Catalans have set an £68 million price tag on the defender but Villa have already said that they won’t offer that much this summer.
In the Spanish outlet’s report, they have suggested that the fee advised is quite high when compared to other options on the market.
Villa podcaster Bracey, who has featured on For The Love of Paul McGrath, has suggested Araujo could be a good signing but the fee and wages will be important.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “He would all depend on the fee. Barcelona, if they aren’t completely happy with someone, like to offload them for quite cheap.
“I feel like that is potentially just a rumour, when I see it I’ll believe it.
“He wouldn’t be a bad signing, he’s a very good centre back but again he’s going to be on a similar wage to someone like Diego Carlos who’s maybe leaving.“
Should Aston Villa sign Ronald Araujo?
Araujo has been a key part of the Barcelona squad for multiple seasons since breaking into the first team back in 2020.
He has continued this involvement into this campaign which has seen him make 25 La Liga appearances as his side confirmed a second-place finish.
The Uruguayan is tall and physical but has plenty of pace to combine with that which makes him a nightmare for defenders.
His ability on the ball would see him suit Emery’s system to a tee and his physical attributes make him suited to the Premier League.
Araujo also has plenty of experience in the Champions League with Barca which will make him a useful part of the dressing room.

The argument is that he would cost a substantial fee and share many of the same assets as Diego Carlos whom Emery seemingly wants to shift.
Araujo is younger and would mark a statement of intent but maybe out of Villa’s price range this summer.
