Aston Villa to sell Diego Carlos with Unai Emery set to be handed increased transfer budget

Bryan King claims that Aston Villa will sell Diego Carlos and use the funds raised to boost Unai Emery’s transfer budget.

The ex-Villa scout believes that the Brazillian defender hasn’t shown enough to keep his place at the club.

It comes after a report in The Telegraph (20 May) revealed that Carlos, who earns around £100,000-per-week at Villa Park, is one of the players the club are expected to listen to offers for.

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – feels that this is the right decision.

“If they could get a decent offer for him then I think they’ll sell him,” King said.

“For the kind of money he is earning, you need more than 20 Premier League starts a season.

“It looks as though Emery has realised that Carlos might not be for him, and selling him would free up some money to sign some players who are.”

Unai Emery to allow Diego Carlos to leave Aston Villa

It is difficult to see Emery standing in the way of Carlos leaving.

The 31-year-old played 27 times in the Premier League last season, starting just 20 of those matches.

Having recently turned 31, and with two years left on his Villa deal, now would be the perfect time for the club to cash in on the centre-back.

And by getting him off the wage bill, Emery would suddenly have a lot more money available.

That money could be put toward signing players who will actually contribute as the club prepares to compete in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

In other Aston Villa news, the club have been backed to sign a player in a cut-price deal after a £60million-plus transfer update.
