Aston Villa set to make Ross Barkley first summer signing
The midfielder has reinvigorated his career after struggling for regular game time since leaving Everton back in 2018.
He moved to Chelsea where he went on to make 100 appearances over four years [FotMob] with a loan move to Villa Park in the middle.
Barkley had a blockbuster start to his Villa career under Dean Smith as he scored on his debut against Liverpool in a 7-2 win.
He followed that up with a last-minute winner against Leicester City which sparked great scenes of celebration.
Traditionally throughout his career, he has played as a number eight or as a 10 but at Luton featured regularly as a deep-lying midfielder.

Under Unai Emery, he could find a role as a backup to Douglas Luiz and feature often for a team now in the Champions League.
Villa need to be clever in the transfer market and signing a useful squad option for a cheap fee early in the window is shrewd business.
