Leander Dendoncker has played final Aston Villa game as Monchi advanced talks underway

Ty Bracey believes Aston Villa will look to move on Leander Dendoncker in the summer transfer window regardless of whether Ross Barkley signs.

The Sun reported on 20 May that the Villans are in advanced talks to sign Barkley for a nominal fee of £2million from Luton Town.

Monchi is reportedly very interested in the former Everton, Chelsea and Villa midfielder, while Unai Emery is said to be impressed by his former at Kenilworth Road in the Premier League.

After a failed loan spell with Napoli, the signing of a new midfielder in the summer could spell the end for Dendoncker in B6 after two years.

Villa podcaster Bracey has suggested that he will depart Villa Park with or without Barkley signing from Luton Town.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I think we’ve seen the end of Dendoncker at Villa. I think that’s him done. Napoli have chosen not to activate their option to buy.

I think regardless of Barkley coming in, he’s a player we want to get off the books.

It’s really important that we’re very smart with the business in this window with the financial implications so it’s right that we get the right players off the books and take the right players on.

Should Aston Villa keep Leander Dendoncker?

With the Belgian leaving in the January transfer window, Emery’s squad were left light in the defensive midfield position.

This was especially the case after Boubacar Kamara picked up an ACL issue which could see him out for up to a year.

At times playing with Douglas Luiz and John McGinn or Youri Tielemans at the base of midfield left Villa exposed.

Despite a general lack of game time since joining the club, staying at Villa could have proven to be a smart move by Dendoncker.

This has been made especially clear by the fact he has played just three Serie A games since joining Napoli in January [FotMob].

Given that he made 15 appearances and scored one goal for the Villans in the Premier League before his move, he made the wrong decision.

Emery should keep hold of the Belgian until a like-for-like replacement option is signed over the summer window.

Dendoncker may not be the required level ahead of Champions League football but as a fringe option could prove to be useful.
