Calum Chambers played final Aston Villa game v Crystal Palace with Villa Park exit inevitable

Ty Bracey believes Calum Chambers played his final Aston Villa game against Crystal Palace with Unai Emery set to move him on in the summer transfer window.

The Villans’ season ended how it began as they conceded five goals away from home in a disappointing defeat at Selhurst Park.

Emery handed Chambers a start on the final day after the nature of his performance off the bench against Liverpool last time out (13 May).

Villa podcaster Bracey, who has featured on Claret & Blue, has suggested that this could prove to be the Englishman’s final game for the club with the summer transfer window looming.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I don’t think we’ll see much more of Calum Chambers. I think against Palace it was a ‘thanks for everything, here’s a start and all the best‘.

He’s obviously one of the fringe players and someone I’d look at offloading over the summer to be fair. One of those where he’s come on when we’ve needed him to for a bit of depth but I think they’re going to look for a bit more quality in our depth going forward and into the Champions League next season.

I have no qualms with Chambers leaving.

Should Aston Villa sell Calum Chambers?

Chambers came in as a shock signing on a free transfer from Arsenal and was certainly a useful player in his opening season.

He proved to be a firm favourite of Steven Gerrard as a centre or right-back alongside Tyrone Mings in the Villa back line.

His crowning moment came with a great strike against Leeds securing a superb 3-0 win at Elland Road, sparking great scenes in the away end.

Under Emery, he hasn’t been fancied which has seen him appear just five times in the Premier League this season with just one start [FotMob].

With the Villans now preparing to take on the Champions League next season, they need quality and strength in depth.

Aston Villa Calum Chambers

Chambers has been useful to fall back on but given he was linked to sides in the Championship in January [Lewis Cox], he probably is no longer good enough.

A move away from Villa Park probably makes sense from the perspective of both parties.
