Aston Villa insider baffled by Unai Emery decision in ‘dismal’ defeat v Crystal Palace
Bryan King doesn’t understand why Unai Emery didn’t hand starts to any Aston Villa academy players against Crystal Palace.
The ex-Villa scout was disappointed by the club’s “dismal” performance as they were beaten 5-0 by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park (19 May) in their final Premier League match of the season.
A few of the club’s Under-21 players were handed minutes off the bench against the Eagles.
But King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – doesn’t understand why Emery didn’t offer starts to any of the club’s youngsters in South London.
“It was a dismal performance from Villa,” King said.
“I think it would have been a smart move for Emery to play some of the academy players against Palace.
“Nothing was riding on the game, so I am not sure why Emery didn’t bring in some youth players from the start.
“It was a very disappointing way to end a very good season for Villa.”
Unai Emery and Aston Villa will want to forget about Crystal Palace thrashing
It has been a wonderful campaign for Villa.
Emery’s side will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season, a remarkable achievement for the club.

Villa supporters will therefore be keen to put the Palace match behind them and look ahead to big European nights at Villa Park next season.
