Unai Emery left ‘disgusted’ as Moussa Diaby in 1/10 – Aston Villa player ratings v Crystal Palace
Aston Villa finished the Premier League season with a whimper as they were defeated 5-0 by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday (19 May).
Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the opener after being put through by Michael Olise before the Frenchman doubled the Eagles’ lead before the half-time break.
Mateta grabbed his hat-trick in the second half, either side of Eberechi Eze’s brace, which saw Villa condemned to a 5-0 defeat on the final day.
Speaking via talkSPORT on Sunday (19 May), Gabby Agbonlahor raged, stating: “Knowing Emery’s standards, he will be disgusted with these players.”
Villa News have rated the players out of 10, with all stats sourced from FotMob.
Douglas Luiz MOTM in Aston Villa horror show v Crystal Palace
Robin Olsen – 2
Hugely disappointing game in goal for Olsen, covering for Emiliano Martinez. Faced an xGOT of 3.06 but conceded five goals, severely underperforming for the Villans.
Ezri Konsa – 3
Not many positive notes with Emery’s defence, having conceded five goals to Crystal Palace. Managed to win 100 per cent of his aerial duels but struggled to deal with Palace’s danger down the flank.
Diego Carlos – 3
Was benched several times during April but has been a solid competitor throughout the season at Villa Park. Unusually shy in the backline, failing to enter any tackles, ground duels or aerial duels.
Clement Lenglet – 2
A few raised eyebrows with Lenglet in the starting XI and Pau Torres on the bench. Clearly the right feeling as multiple mix-ups and failed battles led to a Palace whitewash at Selhurst Park.
Lucas Digne – 4
The best of a bad bunch. Became frustrated and picked up a needless yellow card. Won 75 per cent of his ground duels, setting an example for his teammates, and created three chances in the final third.
Moussa Diaby (Off for Kaine Kesler-Hayden 87′) – 1
Must take a look at himself after a recent dip in form. Managed to fire two shots on target with a combined xG of 0.63 but both efforts were too “weak”. Won zero per cent of his ground and aerial duels, as well as registering a zero per cent success rate with dribbles.
Douglas Luiz – 6
Struggled with the rest of his teammates but attempted to continue pushing despite going 5-0 down. Maintained an exemplary 96 per cent pass completion and completed 67 per cent of his long balls. Made four recoveries but lost 100 per cent of his ground duels.

Calum Chambers (Off for Tim Iroegbunam 69′) – 4
Did well to adapt to the centre-midfield role, attempting to fill Youri Tieleman’s absence. Maintained a 92 per cent pass completion in the middle of the park, not looking out of place next to Luiz.
John McGinn (Off for Finley Munroe 87′) – 5
Was extremely isolated on the left flank. Made 32 touches, creating zero chances, and only made four passes into the final third. Won his duels in the middle with a 100 per cent tackle success and 57 per cent win rate with ground duels, while also making two recoveries.
Jhon Duran – 3
Failed to live up to his own hype, having scored twice off the bench against Liverpool last time out. Fired wide twice, registering a 0 per cent shot accuracy, but won 80 per cent of his aerial battles, showing a little bit of fight for Villa.
Ollie Watkins (Off for Omari Kellyman 69′) – 2
A shadow of the Watkins fans have become accustomed to this season, failing to register a single shot on target (0/2), making just 18 touches and only winning 40 per cent of his ground duels. Disappointing end to a sensational season.
